What is the “swine flu”?

The swine flu or H1N1 is a mutated form of the flu virus.  It was first detected in April 2009.  Despite its name, swine flu is not transmitted by food, including pork.  H1N1 flu is characterized by a fever greater than 100 degrees, nonproductive cough, sore throat, muscle aches and fatigue.  H1N1 flu can vary from mild to severe, with the most severe cases leading to death.
